Pelvis MRI

Pelvic MRIs are heavily relied upon for high quality evaluation of organs and skeletal parts in the pelvic region. MRI provides detailed images, which prove to be effective in diagnosing and monitoring a variety of conditions. Here are some common types of pelvic MRIs:

Routine Pelvic MRI:

Helps in general inspection of vital organs of pelvic region, such as the bladder, rectum, uterus, ovaries, or prostate, often used to evaluate pelvic pain, masses, or abnormalities. Also very helpful in quickly inspecting the damages involving pelvic region in case of trauma. Also helpful in early detection of underlying diseases before becoming life threatening.

MRI for Female Pelvis:

Widely used for diagnosing female reproductive anomalies. Very helpful in spotting uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and adenomyosis.

MRI for Male Pelvis:

MRI Helps in accurately diagnosing anomalies involving male reproductive organs at granular level. It is effective in spotting structural changes due to any reason in  Prostate, seminal vesicles and surrounding tissues. Due to this reason MRI has become the primary diagnostic tool for detecting prostate cancer, prostatitis, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

MRI with Contrast (Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI):

Uses contrasting agents like Gadolinium to achieve high visibility. Contrast helps in highlighting the defects which may not be confirmed normally. Generally prescribed to highlight abnormalities involving soft tissues and fine vascular structures or the areas of inflammation.

Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI):

To achieve greater details in the imaging, a combination of multiple techniques and technologies can be used. Imaging techniques like Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and Contrast enhanced MRI are combined to achieve precise evaluation of prostate cancer and other malignancies of the pelvic region.

Diffusion-Weighted Imaging (DWI):

It works on the principle of differences in the water movement in the tissues. It helps in highlighting the common issues of pelvic region Pelvic MRIs are heavily relied upon for high quality evaluation of organs and skeletal parts in the pelvic region. Pelvic Floor MRI -

It is helpful in the assessment of organs, structures and muscles around the pelvic floor. Most often prescribed for diagnosis of Pelvic floor dysfunction, on set of prolapse, incontinence and other issues.

MR Enterography:

Used for evaluation for structural changes and inflammation in areas surrounding pelvis. Best utilised in diagnosis and monitoring of Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases.

Rectal MRI:

Specifically focuses on the rectum and surrounding tissues to assess rectal cancer staging, fistulas, or abscesses.

Vascular Pelvic MRI (MR Angiography or Venography):

Examines blood vessels in the pelvic area, often used to evaluate vascular anomalies, deep vein thrombosis, or pelvic congestion syndrome.

Each type of pelvic MRI is customized to address specific clinical concerns, offering invaluable insights for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
