ACPCON 2025 POST

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at ACPCON 2025 in Kolkata – an event often called the Durga Puja for chest physicians across West Bengal.

It was an enriching experience discussing the role of CT scans in connective tissue disorders and being a panelist on Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs).

The biggest takeaway from the event was?
We’ve come so far in understanding interstitial lung diseases (ILDs).

Here’s what’s changing:

  • The Old Way: We used to think all ILDs were the same condition – Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). It was like treating every fever as malaria!
  • The New Understanding: Thanks to advanced CT technology, we now know ILDs come in different types. This means more precise treatment for each patient. Even better – we’re seeing far fewer patients needing biopsies than before!
  • The Hot Debate: There’s exciting discussion about “Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis” (PPF). The big question: Can we identify patients who might develop it before it happens? Imagine catching a disease before it even starts!
  • Game-Changer Alert: High-quality CT scans have become our superpower! At ACPCON, we all agreed – good HRCT scans are non-negotiable for accurate diagnosis. They’ve cleared up so many mysteries that used to puzzle us about lung diseases.

As one brilliant colleague said yesterday, “The more we question, the more we learn.”

This spirit of curiosity filled the room as I presented on CT scans in connective tissue disorders and joined the ILD management panel.

Being surrounded by such passionate minds was truly electric! ⚡
